Drug Dependence and Mental Health Issues in Texas

According to the most recent data compiled by United States Census Bureau and The National Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration, nearly 1 in 20 citizens in Texas have 1 or more substance abuse issues (these figures include statistical analysis of reported alcohol, prescription drug, and illicit drug abuse combined). An alarming number on the surface, yet understandable, as science reveals addiction as a disease of the brain. Unlike most mental disease, addiction can not only be treated, it can be permanently overcome during recovery. In return, addiction awareness and prevention become more widespread the more patient and understanding we become during the healing process.
